The Zone Diet
The Zone Diet is the creation of Dr. Barry Sears, who has written a book containing everything you need to know about the diet, called "Enter The Zone". The Zone Diet's main idea is that all foods are divided into zones, and a certain amount of each meal eaten must contain the correct ratio of foods from each zone.
How Does the Zone Diet Work?
The "zones" from which the Zone Diet derives it's names are Carbohydrates, Proteins and Fats. A subscribed ratio of all calories consumed should come from each zone. The ratios are as follows:
- 40% from carbohydrates
- 30% from proteins
- 30% from fats
Zone Diet Recipes
You can make up your own zone diet recipes by following the techniques described by the plan, but it's not that straighforward. First of all you start with your protein component, which is a piece of low-fat protein, such as chicken, fish or Tofu, no bigger than the palm of your hand.
You then have to balance the protein with some carbohydrate, but it has to be the right kind of carb, which predominantly means fruit and vegetables,although potatoes, corn-based foods and surprisingly bananas, are not considered favourable.
Finally, you need to finish of your meal by adding some "good fats". These are things like Olive Oil, Fish Oil, and Almonds, but do not include things like red meats, egg yolk, or anything containing trans fats (which are very common in processed foods).
It's quite complicated, and our dieters found it difficult to work it all out and stick to it.

Zone Diet Review
Only two of our dieters tried the Zone Diet, and neither of them stuck to it for very long. If you've only read the rest of this review, then you'll get an idea why - it's too complex! To follow it accurately, you need to know how each of the items in your meal belongs to each zone, and then start performing calculations to decide which other foods you need to eat to achieve the 40/30/30 ratio! So don't go to a restaurant without your calculator! Even using the 7-Day Meal planner, the Zone Diet was simply too difficult to follow, and for that reason we do not recommend it.
